Launched in 2002 as the first Vista-class ship, Zuiderdam measures about 82,000 GT and carries about 1,900 guests. Its maneuverable size makes it well suited to medium- and long-duration itineraries with many port calls, including the Panama Canal and the Southern Caribbean. Its interiors and facilities were updated during a 2025 dry dock, and it is also included among the ships targeted for major refurbishment under the 2026-announced Holland America Evolution program. Plans have also been announced for Northern Europe deployment in summer 2027, operating round trip from Amsterdam, giving it a broad seasonal range.

Atmosphere and guests
All ages
A calm atmosphere typical of the first Vista-class ship, combined with the lively Music Walk venues added during refurbishment, including B.B. King's, Rolling Stone, and Billboard Onboard. It often follows classic itineraries focused on ports of call, offering a refined feel distinct from flashy modern ships.
Mainly attracts veteran cruisers aged 50 and over from North America. It is supported by a quiet clientele seeking destination-focused, long voyages such as Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and Grand World Voyages.
In 2026, Holland America Line announced "Evolution," a fleet refurbishment program worth $500 million in total, and is progressively carrying out improvements such as better energy efficiency. Additional equipment specific to Zuiderdam (such as scrubbers) has not been confirmed.
