Launched in 2010 as the second Signature-class ship, Nieuw Amsterdam is Eurodam's sister ship. Art decorations themed around the historic ties between New York and the Netherlands are a highlight onboard. With capacity for about 2,100 guests, this midsize ship is highly regarded in Alaska because the upper-deck Crow's Nest is well suited to glacier viewing. In summer, it is a mainstay of one-way Glacier Discovery itineraries between Vancouver and Whittier (Anchorage), pairing well with cruise tours that include inland Denali. In winter, it moves to the Caribbean.

Mainly attracts veteran cruisers aged 50 and over from North America. It is supported by travelers who prioritize ports of call and prefer a quieter voyage.
In 2026, Holland America Line announced the "Evolution" program worth $500 million in total, and is refurbishing the whole fleet in stages.
